Drug informant gets cash reward

CITY OF ZAMBOANGA: The Zamboanga Peninsula Regional Police Office (PRO-9) on Tuesday presented a cash reward to an informant who provided vital information that led to the confiscation of PHP 6.8million from shabu and l arrest of three high-value suspects here. Brig. General Franco Simbrio, director of PRO-9, assisted by Colonel Rexmel Reyes, director of the Zamboanga City Police Office (ZCPO), presented the award during a ceremony at Camp Abendan, the headquarters of PRO-9 at Barangay Mercedes. “The amount received by our informant is monetary compensation offered by the government for information which led to the arrest or neutralization of high-value individuals,” Simbrio said, refusing to disclose the amount of money that the informant got it.

Members of the ZCPO Station 11 Operations Team, the City Drug Enforcement Unit and City Mobile Force 2nd Seaborne Company attended the ceremony. The three high-value suspects, including a former soldier, were arrested on Sunday as part of an anti-drug operation at Purok 2, phase 1 of Lobregat village in Barangay Calarian. They were identified as Jaafar Ekong, 51, a former soldier who was absent without official permission; Darwisa Ibbo, 48 years old; and Toto Samson, 32, all from Jolo, Sulu. Of the three, a kilo of alleged shabu worth PHP 6.8million, PHP 1,499,000 of boodle money topped with an actual PHP 1,000 bill in the form of marked money placed in a cashbox. face mask and a cell phone were seized.

Simbrio, along with Reyes, thanked the informant for providing timely information leading to the arrest of the suspects. He urged residents to report to authorities any suspicious person or illegal activity taking place in their communities. “The fight against illegal drugs, crime and the preservation of peace is a shared responsibility of all, so we must all do our part in this national approach to peace and development,” said Simbrio. He assured the public that all information will be treated with the utmost confidentiality.
