The Department of Technical Education, through the Skills 21 project, will launch a campaign throughout the year to increase the popularity of Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).
The campaign strategy was developed with the assistance of the International Labor Organization (ILO), the implementation of the Skills 21 project funded by the European Union.
An orientation workshop was held in Dhaka on the implementation of this campaign strategy on Saturday, September 18, 2021. Directors, chief instructors and heads of various technical education and training institutes, including the country’s polytechnics, technical schools and colleges, and officials from and the Madrasah Education Division (TMED) and Technical Education Department (DTE) participated in the workshop.

The workshop was opened by the Secretary of the Division of Technical Education and Madrasah, Md. Aminul Islam Khan. âCreating the interest of young people in technical education is an important task at the moment,â he said. âResearch is underway in developed countries as well as in developing countries to expand technical education. The government of Bangladesh has also made it a priority in the continuity of development. We want ordinary students to be attracted to technical education and help build a qualified Bangladesh, âhe added.
Tuomo Poutiainen, Country Director of the International Labor Organization, said: âOutreach can only be effective if it reflects the right messages, language and communication channels from stakeholders. The campaign aims to use specific media to convey specific messages to the public, such as vocational training, job opportunities and decent work.
Maurizio Cian, Head of European Union Cooperation, told the workshop that the European Union has been working since 2007 to reform Bangladesh’s technical education system. Funding has been provided to develop the national skills development policy-2011, the NTVQF, the quality assurance system, etc. The EU envoy called for an effective awareness campaign to give young people a clear idea of ââthe scope, effectiveness, context and employment opportunities of technical education.
Other speakers at the workshop said that Bangladesh, as a country, currently feels the need to ensure maximum use of demographic dividends. At least two million young people enter the labor market each year. The speakers focused on raising the level of technical education and training institutions to make them qualified.

He was informed at the workshop that the pilot program begins the first week of October at the Sylhet Technical School and College as part of a detailed work plan across the country. This is followed by campaigns at the Bangladesh Polytechnic Institute in Sweden, Kaptai, Rangamati and the Gaibandha Technical Training Center.
Information and recommendations from the field will be integrated to finalize the strategy for this campaign. Based on the experience gained after the organization of the first part of the program in three organizations in Sylhet, Rangamati and Gaibandha, the next part of the program will be organized in four other partner TVET institutes of the âSkills-21â project. .
Another workshop will be organized later on the basis of all the results at the field level. There, the people involved will work to make the strategy more perfect. This strategy will then be implemented in the form of an awareness program in technical and vocational education and training institutions across the country.
