Efforts to make the roads of Lagos safer recently received a boost when the Durojaiye Relief Foundation (DRF), in partnership with the assemblers and distributors of the Geely vehicle brand in Nigeria, Mikano Motors, recently launched an awareness initiative road safety in the state.
The campaign aimed to sensitize motorists and pedestrians on the need to adopt proper road safety measures for a safer travel experience on the roads of Lagos.
Supported by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the campaign kicked off with a courtesy visit by the DRF Executive Committee and the Commanding Mayor of LASTMA to Mikano International Motors Division Headquarters.
During the visit, they were informed about the activities planned for the road safety awareness campaign. Also in attendance were other LASTMA officials and Mikano Motors personnel.
The briefing was followed by a two-day road show, where members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos Chapter and other road users were sensitized on the importance of obey basic traffic and safety rules.
Some of the rules focused on using seat belts, avoiding distractions; do not text and drive, do not drive under the influence or while fatigued, among other essential road safety best practices.
To emphasize the importance of proper maintenance as the best approach to keeping vehicles in good condition and ensuring the safe transportation of passengers across the state, some motorists were offered a free oil change as an added incentive.
The Durojaiye Relief Foundation is renowned for the many philanthropic initiatives that have touched the lives of many Nigerians through their community outreach programs, skills building and youth empowerment programs.
The Mikano Motors division, which is Nigeria’s fastest growing automotive brand and home to Geely, Maxus and ZNA autos, fully supported the campaign, with an impressive motorcade showcasing a selection of their premium vehicles.
