CITY OF ZAMBOANGA – Some three suspected ‘important’ drug traffickers were arrested while more than PHP 3.4 million of illegal drugs were seized in two separate drug control operations in Zamboanga del Norte and Zamboanga de Sur on 7 and 8 July, respectively, said a senior police official.
Brig. General Ronaldo Ylagan, director of Regional Police Office-9 (PRO-9), identified the arrested suspects as Jamael Omar, Salimah Amer, 32; and Darwin Datoy, 35.
Joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) officers arrested Omar and Amer in a drug operation around 12:15 p.m. Thursday in Purok Doña Aurora, Barangay Poblacion, Aurora, Zamboanga del Sur.
Ylagan said the two suspects were seized with plus or minus 500 grams of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu wrapped in five large knotted plastic bags worth PHP 3.4 million, a package of 900 000 PHP silver topped with genuine PHP1, 000 marked money, cell phone, multicab vehicle and other accessories.
Datoy was arrested in a buyout operation around 11 p.m. Wednesday in Barangay Biasong, Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte.
More or less 10 grams of the alleged shabu were recovered from Datoy’s possession wrapped in five medium-sized heat-sealed plastic bags worth PHP 68,000 and PHP 500 marked with money.
He said the anti-drug operations were launched as a result of a series of watches over the illegal drug trafficking activities of the suspects.
Charges of violating Article 5 (sale) and Article 11 (possession) of Republic Law 9165, also known as the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Law of 2002, have been filed against the three suspects. (ANP)
