CHENNAI: With the decline in Covid cases, Tamil Nadu has slowly lifted the lockdown restriction. But people must continue to follow pandemic restrictions to keep the incidence low, Health Minister Ma Subramanian said.
“It is the government’s duty to educate and encourage people to wear a mask and maintain social distancing,†he said as he launched a four-day awareness campaign on appropriate Covid behavior. The program is jointly organized by the Public Health Directorate, the Greater Chennai Corporation, the Press Information Office and UNICEF.
“Ten minivans with posters and speakers will circulate through crowded residential areas and city markets for the next four days through July 5. Volunteers will distribute brochures to reinforce the message urging people to wear masks, wash their hands frequently with soap, use hand sanitizer and maintain physical distance and also avoid crowded places to control the influx of cases. They will also motivate them to get vaccinated, â€he said.
The state has so far received 1.56 crore doses of the vaccine and has used up 1.48 crore doses. “We had over eight doses of lakh and hope to empty them in a few days,†he said.
